The Art of Travel

Travel season is here! Today I am sharing 6 tips from Marie Kondo for making your travel a joy-sparking experience from start to finish:

1️⃣ Imagine Your Ideal Trip

Before planning your trip, imagine your ideal experience. Ask yourself: What travel style do you enjoy? What does a joyful afternoon look like? Do you want to feel relaxed, energized, or both?

If planning with others, share your visions to build excitement and camaraderie.

2️⃣Embrace the Unplanned

When planning your trip, accept that you can’t see everything. Leave time for unexpected moments. Think of your itinerary as a flexible outline. For every three days of planned activities, leave one day or part of a day open for exploring without a set destination.

3️⃣Pack What Sparks Joy

Give yourself plenty of time to plan your packing list, and only pack what sparks joy! Consider packing a few favorite self-care items. Flights can dry out the skin, so bring a soothing face mask and rich hand lotion with you. If you plan to stay with relatives, pack a robe or soft slippers to feel more comfortable in an unfamiliar home.

4️⃣Find Joy in the Little Moments

Ideal travel is personal. Enjoy a backyard campout or a trip to Europe by savoring each moment. Leave your phone behind, watch your kids play, and share daily highlights at dinner. Keep a travel journal to reflect on your experiences.

5️⃣Think Before You Acquire

When traveling, souvenir stands and shops seem to pop up everywhere. But before acquiring more items, ask yourself whether they will spark joy for years to come! If not, leave them behind.

6️⃣Make Time for Gratitude

Start each day of your trip with a quiet moment. Breathe deeply, give thanks for yesterday, and reconnect with why you planned this trip. This simple routine will bring fresh energy and remind you that joy is always renewable.
